Frequently Asked Questions
Is matcha good for you?
Made of finely stone-milled green tea leaves, Nami Matcha is packed with antioxidants, chlorophyll, and L-Theanine. The amino acid L-Theanine has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, as well as provide sustained energy without the crash or jitters!
Where is Nami Matcha grown?
Nami Matcha is always grown in Japan. Our Okumidori first harvest matcha is sourced from Kagoshima, our Yame first harvest matcha is sourced from the Yame region of Fukuoka, and our Kana first harvest matcha is sourced from Shizuoka! You can check specific product pages to see where each of our matchas/hojichas come from. The place where your matcha is harvested has an impact on its flavor (due to differing climates) so it's super fun to try out different matchas from different places. We hope you enjoy it as we continue to expand our collection!
How much caffeine does matcha/hojicha have?
Matcha naturally contains caffeine, typically around 60-70mg per serving. But thanks to L-Theanine, the energy is smooth and sustained with no crash or jitters! Hojicha is a great lower-caffeine option, with only 5-10mg of caffeine per serving.
Does Nami test for heavy metals?
Yes! All of our matcha is tested for heavy metals and impurities, and fully complies with relevant food safety standards. We take quality seriously so you can sip with peace of mind!
How do I make the perfect matcha?
Scoop & sift your desired amount of matcha into a bowl (usually around 1/2-1 tsp). Use a bamboo whisk to whisk with 1-2oz of water. For best froth, use water at a temp of 140-175°F (60-80°C). Enjoy with water or milk (add 4-6oz of whichever you prefer!) Enjoy hot or iced. Be sure to check out the Ritual section under each product!
How do I care for my whisk?
Taking care of your whisk will make it last so much longer! Before each use, bloom your whisk by soaking the tines in warm water for 30-90 seconds to soften them. After whisking, rinse your whisk with water and place it back on your whisk stand with the tines pushed all the way down so it keeps its beautiful shape as it dries.
Do you sell your chawans, whisk holders, sieves, etc. separately?
We don't! These are only available as part of their respective kits. If you're interested in getting your hands on them, check out our kits!
How should I store my matcha once it's opened?
We recommend storing your opened matcha tin in the refrigerator to keep it as fresh as possible!
Where do you ship to?
We ship our tins to most countries but if you are unsure put in your shipping address at checkout. Currently we only ship our kits to the US, Canada, and the UK.
How much does shipping cost?
In the contiguous United States, shipping is $5. If you spend over $50, shipping will be free. For Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, shipping will be $5 for the tins, and $15 for the matcha kits. International shipping is DDP meaning shipping, duties and taxes are all included! These prices are all made super clear on the checkout before your card is charged.
How long will shipping take?
We will do our best to get our products to you as quickly as we can! But please be patient :) Matcha tins can take up to 2 business days to pick and pack and 4-6 days transit in the USA. Please note that during peak holiday periods, shipping times may be extended due to increased carrier volume and we cannot guarantee a certain delivery date. For international shipping, estimated times are all made super clear on the checkout before you purchase! Please note that international shipping is subject to unknown delays.
